What do the famous anime characters in movies and TV shows really look like? A digital artist has created a fascinating set of AI-assisted “portraits” that provide answers to that question.

Hidreley Leli Diao is a Brazilian artist who “loves everything related to digital art”. After discovering that artificial intelligence software can create photorealistic portraits of people who don’t really exist, Diao began experimenting with technology in a creative way.

“Since I discovered artificial intelligence, I’ve challenged myself to do things I never imagined,” says Diao. PetaPixel.. “With some research and a lot of practice, I thought it was time to bring some Disney characters to human life.”

Diao says he grew up watching the Simpsons, Hanna-Barbera shows, and Disney animations that had a huge impact on his life. Using state-of-the-art AI photography software, Diao was able to create realistic portraits of his favorite characters.

“When watching an animation, it’s natural to accept the cartoonish proportions of a character without any problems. After all, we’re pretty accustomed to this type of trait,” writes Diao. Boring panda, Where are the contributors? “But what if, like a spell, they became real bodies and blood? I tried to bring them into our world through artificial intelligence.”

The software Diao used to create “photos” was Photoshop and three different mobile AI photo editing apps: FaceApp, Gradient and Remini.

Each portrait was created by scrutinizing the web for portraits that include facial features that match the character.

“I look for the image in the bank and overlay the image from my eyes,” says Diao. “The hardest part is finding an image that matches the character I’m working on.”
