Bolton: The Coffee House in Bolton town centre

The Coffee House is the latest business to open, located on the corner of Victoria Square and Newport Street, and plans are underway for a cafe in Bolton Library and Museum.

The Koffiehuis officially opens on Thursday inside the former GAME store.

It is part of an independent chain and is the twelfth coffee shop to open under the brand.

The Coffee House is an independent chain with a wide variety of menus for all tastes – vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free.

Brother’s Chris and Stephen Shelmerdine opened the first branch in Lymm in 2011.

Each store is uniquely designed and inspired by where it is located.

The cozy

Wall art created by The Coffee House’s in-house graphic designer – Steph Thompson, who is from Bolton – includes depictions of some of the town’s most iconic scenes, such as Bolton Wanderer’s Stadium and the Town Hall, as well as wall dedicated to Bolton words and phrases.

“Everyone comments on it,” Steph said.

Lizzie Clarke, marketing manager at The Coffee House, says they like to integrate themselves into the towns they live in, and Bolton will be no different.

They are keen to get involved in everything the town has to offer, from this weekend’s Bolton Pride to the food festival later this month, and next year’s IRONMAN.

“This is what we like to be known for,” she said. “We want to work with the council, local traders and promote locally. We are all in this together.”

The three-month renovation of the premises has created space for 80 people, inside and outside, and is considered an ideal place for breakfast or lunch.

Its ‘snug’ and other segregated ‘VIP area’, as Steph jokingly referred to it, also make it a perfect place for remote working, with plug sockets for devices.

The Coffee Shop has already hired seven members of staff, mostly from Bolton and one from Bury, and will look to hire more as it gets going.

Store opening managers Brenda and Paige, the latter of whom was recently promoted, both wanted to emphasize that there are opportunities in the company to advance.

“The business is growing, and it wants people to grow with it,” said Brenda.

“A lot of drivers come from within. The back of the house and the front of the snake grow.”

The Coffee House opens its doors to the public on Thursday 4 August. Opening hours are 08:00-18:00 every day except Sunday, when it is open from 09:00-17:00.
