The exhibition of Bob Dylan’s paintings at the Patricia and Phillipet in Miami is drawn from the stills of the film, creating scenes of everyday isolated life.
The paintings that make up Bob Dylan’s 2016 series Beaten road Take us across the deserted American landscape. Many offer places of the past rather than the future. The motel sign on Route 66, the fenced closed school, the broken railroad tracks on the beach, nowhere else. These are spaces where people are empty but filled with their traces.
In contrast, Dylan’s 2021 painting series Deep focus – Currently on display at the Patricia & Phillip Frost Museum – Moved to American cities, where all kinds of humans live.
Inside, four men participating in a card game are gathered. Some people roll the dice outside. Jazz band. At the last moment of a boxing match, you can see the batter on the plate at two sporting events where Dylan consistently returns. There is a lot of alcohol and a lot of smoking.
Deep focus It may show you everyday life, but it is an isolated individual. A woman who drinks and smokes at the bar. Closing time with a man who died in Barstool. As another man looked out the dining room window, his right hand stopped writing in his notebook. A woman who flipped an open bottle on the floor behind a child seat. A man in a devastated hut undershirt. A woman lying on her back on the roof of a Nagaya in New York.
Elsewhere, there are only traces of quarantine, as follows: Motel Still Life (2021) Single toothbrush, single shot glass, whiskey bottle, radio, book, probably Gideon’s Bible. This can take you back to a strange hotel and the neon is burning bright A simple twist of fate (1975), the character feels the emptiness inside.song of Blood on the Tracks (1975) is correctly associated with the growing interest in Dylan’s paintings at the time.of Deep focus, Dylan works to create memories of such a world from still images of the film: a song that tells a story and a painting that captures a frozen fragment of the film, both containing a large number.
At the 2019 exhibition I came back and kept approaching line From (2008) Draw blank Dylan’s Answer to Multiple Versions of Monet’s Japanese Footbridge in the Series (1899) – Seven paintings change color and as they gather to look at a 9ft x 6 monumental masterpiece, The color becomes darker. Colors throughout the palette – blue, green, purple and pink, white steel rails burn the sky and cut through them.
In an interview on October 30, 1977, when Dylan was finishing up his film Lenard & Clara, Allen Ginsberg asked, “As a poet, what attracts you to the film?” “If there was a movie when Da Vinci was active, he would have made a movie,” Dylan said. And now he’s back in a genre that has always been important. “All these images are from the movie,” he says. Deep focus.. Always an inventor and teacher, Dylan can create new imaginations, stop time, freeze and reimagine, but also step into our own memories and watch movies with new eyes. I made it possible.
Identify the origin of the painting Deep focus Is like a game, just as happy as Homer, Blake, and Whitman’s lines are happy to hear in Dylan’s song. But that’s just the beginning.Importantly, Dylan is from those lines of his song, or Deep focus From the image.Who is the woman who has a dog Taking a walk with a dog (All in 2021), and why does she look so rushed? Where is she and how does the laundromat get there? Woman in a hideout There are stories to tell, none of them are very happy from the appearance of it.of Novelist What the subject is writing, who he is looking out of the screen through that window, and how his observational experience and observations convey to what he is writing in his notebook through his imagination. I wonder if it will be possible.
Deep focus Often, I’m less interested in the action in the foreground, and I’m more towards either side than what’s happening in the background. The new series takes part in that process and creates curiosity about the outside of the canteen window, background signs and menus, the face of a man in a crowd of boxing matches, and many who can be seen through the open trailer doors, A picture on the wall or bar in the bedroom.
The still images of the movie Dylan is making are said to show “the possibility of the camera manipulating reality.” It’s not just the camera. There are a lot of creative operations happening in Deep focus..Lonely figure Sugar bowl (2021) Can be identified as Vance, the biker played by Willem Dafoe in the 1981 movie. Loveless.. A retro dining room, like an outside petrol pump, harmonizes with the movie setting of the late 1950s. However, Dylan still had another character, a waitress, who had just poured coffee for Vance.of Sugar bowl She’s not there, leave Vance alone to Hina, an ominous pointer to the mayhem and darkness that the movie closes. And the clue to his identity lies in the Harley-Davidson 1200 cc Type 74 bike parked outside the diner window, which was brought to the world like Dylan in 1941. 15-year-old Bob on the bike. Vance was transformed by his stunning reading, manipulation, and reinterpretation of images to use Dylan’s own language. This is even a new kind of self-portrait.
There are many such transformations Deep focus.. In one picture Frank and Buddy (2021), the storefront with the number 259 is displayed above the symbol’A. Zito & Sons. Bakery. ‘Zito’s is a famous Italian bakery on 259 Bleecker Street, the village’s longest-running restaurant, which has been open for 80 years until it closed in 2004 and is now Baker and Company Dylan’s first apartment in New York. The name is Italian restaurant. Located on 161 West 4th Street, York is just one block from the bakery and a five-minute walk from the townhouse that was later owned by MacDougal Street. The real bakery is the same height as the street. Our painter lifts it up and gives the street-level door on the left a set of three or four stairs, on which two black men talk. They wear suits and stylish hats that look like they were in the 1940s, and one smokes. Someone will eventually track the movie they came from. There is a barber shop sign pole between them and the bakery window, a timeless icon that is a leitmotif. Deep focus..
Below the bakery in the open space, there is a sign for “FRANK’S BARBER SHOP”.It may lead us to New York Times Obituary on October 1, 1998 for Charlie Jito, son of founder Antonio:’Mr. Jito loved Sinatra at least as much as the wonderful whole wheat bread. The story continued when the singer was in town, he personally called Mr. Zito to personally deliver bread to Waldorf Astoria. That’s why Dylan, who recently recorded five discs centered around Sinatra’s songs, lifts Jito a few feet to give Frank an underground hairdresser just below his beloved bakery. Painting integrates all the components into one, allowing our imagination to create a Zito that does not belong to anywhere in its 80 years at the same time.
The movie has always been in Dylan’s past. In his early days in Hibbing, it was his lifeline to the outside world through the Golden Age of Hollywood, which matched his teens. It linked him to Archetypal Old West, Ancient Rome, Shakespeare, James Dean, Brand, and Peck. These paintings bring him and our past films and characters to the present. Like the scenes he’s created in songs over the last few years, Deep focus By not only mechanically or accidentally identifying the movie scenes that became his new palette, but also pondering how he creatively transforms those scenes and brings them to our consciousness, people will come. I’ll be busy for years. As Dylan said about the series. ” These paintings form the script for our own situation. “A life that comes to you in every form and form”.
