The Hyatt Centric Backhead Hotel may be a new building, but the design team was inspired by local traditions that you may not be aware of. The exterior of the hotel, designed by Cooper Carrie, harmonizes with the other modern glass buildings that make up the Backhead Skyline, while the 15-story hotel stands beside the GA400 at Lenox Mall. The location of the hotel will certainly be an interesting home base for exploring the backhead area. The PATH400 is close to the hotel and provides easy access to the MARTA and Buckhead technical corridors. A walk across the Gordon C. Bynum Pedestrian Bridge provides easy access to the beautiful section of PATH400 near Peachtree Park and Lindbergh.
Georgian pottery tradition
Sales and Marketing Director Yajara Torres introduced us to the new Hyatt Centric and explained the origins of hotel interior design. Based in Newyork, Sawer & Company designed hotel interiors, guest rooms and conference spaces. Sawyer took inspiration from the Georgian pottery tradition to create the interior space. The backhead area was one of Georgia’s “Jugtowns” in the 1800s. Craftsmen used local clay to create stone tools for personal use and sale. Torres explains: “There are a lot of potters and I like to be considered craftsmen like blacksmiths. They felt their work was just as essential. [a blacksmith’s].. ”
You can see the influence of pottery on the shape, color and texture of the entire hotel. The unique front dest looks like a glazed clay pot and is supported by a decorative terracotta brick wall. Design clues are not always so obvious. The designers also adopt subtle patterns and earth tones throughout the hotel, reminiscent of pottery motifs and clay.
Top Chef Times 2
Both Hyatt Centric Backhead restaurants were invented by chef Hugh Acheson. Chef Acheson has won the James Beard Award for popular restaurants in Georgia, including 5 & 10 in Athens and Empire State South in Atlanta. Cooper Carrie’s Johnson Studios designed the interiors of both restaurants, and they share similar East Asian aesthetics.
Mount Royal
Next to the lobby on the ground floor is Mount Royal. The rich colors and layered textures of wood, tiles and fabrics are reminiscent of Moroccan weirdness, but clearly have a high-end atmosphere. Outdoor terrace seats expand restaurant seats during the warmer months. Torres described Mount Royal as the Montreal Steakhouse. Here, guests are encouraged to share a great meal. “Chef Hugh is not about” chef “showmanship. He wants it all in the food. It tells a story and an atmosphere. So when people are happy, their tummy is happy and they are having a good time. “

Spaceman is the name of Chef Hough’s rooftop restaurant. The 360-degree view from the 15-story building is breathtaking. Enjoy two outdoor terraces with seats, a TV for watching sports, and lawn games. Spaceman’s menu is a small plate and tapas to share. Mr. Torres told me that Chef Hugh intends to make Spaceman the beginning of your night. “The idea is that everyone starts here with a cocktail and ends their business day. After relaxing here, enjoy a very delicious meal. [downstairs at Mount Royal]”.

Hyatt Centric backheads may be designed for visitors, but there are many things that locals love. Torres told me that residents of Peach Tree Park are starting to come to the hotel to let their dogs play on the hotel lawn, and the hotel is pleased with it. The spirit of the Hyatt Centric Hotel is that it is centrally located and part of the community. I think the Hyatt Centric Backhead is off to a good start!
