There are some common decor trends you should steer clear of, an interior expert says.
From specific color schemes to various patterns and textures, there are elements you shouldn’t choose when designing your home.
“From us, we have Tuscan kitchens. They don’t look right in every home they’re in,” interior guru Laura Lisbon begins in a TikTok video shared with his 211K followers.
“I honestly don’t get any traction with making your kitchen look like a cheesecake factory.”
Tuscan-style kitchens feature vaulted brick ceilings, plenty of cabinets, terracotta tile floors and solid furniture made from natural wood.
Lisbon’s next complaint is faux shingles.
“First, you’re not fooling anyone. Second, it looks bad and I assure you everyone will be torn apart [them] In two to three years,” he asserted.
He turned to a specific door style that you also want to give up.
“Next, we have the barn door. It’s so important, it’s absolutely worthless.”
According to Lisbon, having a certain color scheme can make your home look unwelcome.
“Then we have grey and white interiors. Honestly, it looks like it’s two steps away from Patrick Bateman staying there. It doesn’t look luxurious, it’s about making a place look cold and still and uninspired. The fastest way to be popular.”
Lisbon also highlighted a trend in the mid-2010s that he described as “sultry and disgusting”. Its interior is described by him as “pee yellow and poo brown”, which you shouldn’t implement at home.
Finally, interior experts cover matching certain components.
He said, “Then we got curtains with matching upholstery. Just don’t. That’s what I would do in The Sims 3. Don’t.”
Some in the Lisbon comment section agreed with him, such as one writing: “The yellows and browns of the 2010s always remind me of a dimly lit restaurant bathroom that needs cleaning.”
Other viewers took the opposite view.
One person said: “Faux shingles are popular for a reason. It’s for homes with kids and pets. Easier to clean, stronger etc. Balance between design and practicality.”
A second quipped: “I love greys and whites because I’m bored and I don’t want people to feel invited and comfortable in my personal space. Go out, don’t come back, please.”
