Several rumors over the past few months indicate that Apple plans to abandon the notch design on this year’s iPhone 14 Pro.Initially, it was reported that Apple would adopt a drilling design to house the camera, but now it’s Reliable analyst, Roth Young Apple states that it will use “hole + pill design” on iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
For those unfamiliar, Roth Young is an analyst for display supply chain consultants. As such, his reports are usually based on suggestions from supply chains similar to analysts such as Ming-Chi Kuo. He has proven to be highly credible in the past year, including being the only analyst to report that the 2021 MacBook Pro has a mini LED display with ProMotion.
Young reports today that this design will be Apple’s own, as will Notch. On the contrary, the simple drilling design would have been very similar to the design used by Android makers such as Huawei and Samsung.
We now believe that Apple has a hole and pill design on the iPhone 14 Pro and ProMax models. The smaller hole disappears … The concept of two holes, unlike all Huawei pill models, is Apple-specific, like a notch.
This design was shared in the first leaked schematic Anonymous Twitter account Last September. Young now confirms that this is the design Apple uses for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. According to the anonymous Twitter account, the camera is located on the right side and the Face ID system is located on the left side.
This design is certainly interesting. The combination of both the hole punch and the pill-shaped notch is still smaller than the current notch, albeit only slightly.
Reputable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo first reported that the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max feature a new drilling design instead of a notch. Since Kuo first reported this change, the question has been focused on where all Face ID components go. As a review, everything currently contained in the Notch is here.
- Infrared camera
- Flood illuminator
- Proximity sensor
- Ambient light sensor
- Front camera
- Dot projector
The combination of this hole punch and the pill-shaped notch seems to give Apple more room to attach all these components to the outside of the notch. Keep in mind that with this year’s iPhone 13, Apple has made the notch a little narrower, but a little taller.
The iPhone 14 lineup will be available in two different screen sizes, the 6.1-inch and the 6.7-inch. It may be available in the form of iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max, then iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. The Pro model reportedly adopts a new design, while the other models seem to retain the notch.
What do you think of this design? Do you like a notch, a single pill or a single hole notch, or this combo design? Please let us know in the comments.
