One of the greatest legends of watchmaking, the retrospective exhibition debuts here in Singapore for the first time in Southeast Asia, then travels to Thailand and Australia.
It has been 90 years since the iconic Reverso was born. The legend of Reverso, a unique and timeless expression of the Art Deco movement, began in Polofield, India, where the idea of a case that could be turned inside out was born. With its innovative design and perfect craftsmanship, Reverso was quickly accepted by trendsetters in all disciplines and quickly exceeded its original purpose. It is one of the most famous watches in the world, with a skillful combination of form and function.
Reverso Stories explores the creative and cultural world of this extraordinary design on four themes, taking visitors on a 90-year-old, timeless journey of modernity.
The trip is Icon story, From the first model in 1931 to the latest Reverso tribute piece, tells the story of the origin of Reverso through a selection of milestone Reverso watches.
A Style and design story Find out the roots of Reverso’s Art Deco. Visitors discover that, according to Art Deco design principles, the characteristic rectangular shape of the watch was determined by the original concept, that is, the case needs to be turned inside out. A selection of watches skillfully selected for both men and women follows the changing style of Reverso’s acquisition of design icon status over the last 90 years.
The Craftsmanship story Celebrating the skills of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s enamel, gem setters, sculptors and guillochége masters, revealing ways to maximize Reverso’s potential as a canvas for artistic expression and personalized messages.
A Innovation story Explore how Reverso embodies an eternally original quest for Jaeger-LeCoultre’s technological advances. From the innovative idea of a case that can be turned inside out to the ingenious design by the patented Rene-Alfred Chauvot in 1931, the story tells the story of the first rectangular minute repeater, a unique retrograde and more. Follow the introduction of complex manufacturing features. Chronograph and gyro tourbillon, invention of double-sided and dual-time concept, and use of new materials.
Visitors can also discover a traditional decorative technique, the perlage, also known as circular grain, by practicing in a boutique retrospective. This finishing technique consists, for example, by arranging small circles to decorate the main plate of the movement. Gestures really need to be mastered, as the final rendering of the pearl may vary depending on the pressure applied.
