New on sale Leica M11The enthusiastic spotter noticed three additional arrangements for potential new cameras in 2022. They were seen in the live keynote behind Welzer’s Mark Sipard. Inside these empty slots was the roadmap for the Leica S, Leica SL, and Leica Q camera series.
More rumors have appeared online Leica rumors It reports that a leaked image of the Leica Q model was seen in the Leica Photo app when it was updated to support the Leica M11. However, the image of Leica Q was not the image of the original Leica Q or Q2, but the image of Leica Q3.
Leica Q3: What you know so far
The Leica Q2 was released in 2019 and is the successor to the popular Leica Q, both with the iconic fixed 28mm Summilux f / 1.7, and the Q2 has a 47.3 megapixel sensor, autofocus and a high 3.68 megapixel. Equipped with a resolution OLED viewfinder. A popular monochrome variant specially designed to shoot in black and white only.
Needless to say, these two cameras are very popular with Leica enthusiasts and those looking to buy the Leica ecosystem for the first time, but the second quarter was launched in March 2019 and is Leica’s. M11 was introduced as a main product. It is no exaggeration to say that some of these improvements could lead to the new Leica Q3 due to the Rangefinder M lineup and the significant technological improvements that accompany it.
From the leaked photos found in the Leica Photo app, it’s clear that Leica has added a larger tiltable screen to the new Leica Q3 and changed the layout of the buttons. Compared to the back of the Q2, the new Q3 has additional feature buttons at the top of the screen, but the three side buttons have been removed to give way to a larger screen. The menu and play button have been relocated to the other side of the thumbwheel.
What we want to see
• 60 megapixel sensor
Of course, I would like to see the new M11 sensor in the Leica Q3. Its multi-resolution sensor can generate 60, 36, 18 megapixel images while taking advantage of the entire frame of the sensor. However, it would be nice to use this feature as a crop, as in the previous Q model. Therefore, if 28mm is too wide, choose a lower resolution and increase the focal length of the lens.
• Monochrome variants available at launch
On the Leica roadmap, it was important to introduce a color sensor camera and, during its life cycle, introduce a monochrome variation with improved functionality and sensors from user feedback. It’s great to have a color sensor and a monochrome sensor available at the same time. So black-and-white photographers don’t have to wait their turn until they can use the latest cameras and technologies.
• Faster shutter speed
Again, what was introduced with the Leica M11 was to use a shutter speed of 1/16000 seconds thanks to the new electronic shutter mode. This high speed may be rarely used in street snaps, which are very popular with Leica Q / Q2 users, but it’s great to see the shutter speed increase to at least 1/2000 seconds. 4,000 seconds with a mechanical shutter and 1/8000 seconds with an electronic shutter.
So far, these are the latest rumors available to us. However, there is no doubt that it will increase further in the future. This page will be updated when it is announced. For now, if you’re considering the Leica Q2 as a potential upgrade to an existing setup, or want to buy it to enter the Leica ecosystem, there’s no real-time, so the best time to buy it is I think it’s time to confirm when the third quarter could be released in 2022.
