Moonside’s latest modular smart lamp turns your wall into a living art installation

After two successful crowdfunding campaigns, Moonside is back in third place in the Dynamic Smart Lamps series. This time, we are focusing on modularity. If you haven’t heard of Moonside yet, think of it as a smart light bulb with the personality of a lava lamp. I went early last year and got the Moonside Neon Lighthouse, but it’s still faithfully placed next to my laptop and the shades of color are deliciously blended so it’s uplifting immediately. I can.

The company’s products are at the crossroads of lighting, art and smart IoT technologies. The lamps that Moonside made in the past are very amazing to see (the diffuse material is so well tuned that you can’t even see the individual LEDs behind them, the spheres of light that move across each other. You can only see. Around the shape of the lamp). However, the third product of Hong Kong-based startups is not a desktop light.

A more modeled version of something like Nanoleaf (though these are thicker and have much more seamless colors and patterns), the Moonside Neon Hex can be placed on any wall and can be single or multiple. You can adjust it to shine with color. You can download free preset color patterns (changing shapes) from Moonside’s own marketplace. Each light is also equipped with an audio sensor, so you can set up the light to react to music.

Moonside Neon Hex is the company’s first modular setup designed to interconnect to create larger installations. The collection consists of individual Y-shaped members (although Moonside states that it may expand or have new shapes in the future) and can be combined in all possible directions.

You can order anywhere from 3 packs to 24 packs. The wall-based installation can be large or small, complex or simple, as needed. The unit is non-destructively mounted on the wall. It supports both putty base and double-sided tape mounting options, so the paint won’t come off when you’re removing the neon hex mount (or worse, drywall).

Once you’ve assembled your Neon Hex, all you need to do is connect it through the Neon Hex’s USB-C port (just plug it in and the entire installation will connect through that one source). A unique charging cable with a built-in remote for immediate use. The remote control comes with buttons that allow you to turn the neon hexagon on and off, switch the lighting mode, and control the brightness. One of my big complaints is that, like previous products, the Neon Hex doesn’t have a built-in battery, but it does support connecting to a power bank.

The Moonside Neon Hex has some built-in presets, but when you connect it to your smartphone using the Moonside app, it’s literally pretty good. With this app, you can remotely turn neon hexes on and off, control brightness, choose from 16 million colors to offer, and browse Moonside’s extensive marketplace of free lighting patterns. You can do it.

The marketplace is one of my favorite features of lights as it has the power to effectively change the atmosphere of the entire room with shades, styles and orderly LED choreography. The app (which Moonside states is undergoing a major redesign of 2.0) allows you to connect your light to your smart home and pair it with Alexa, Siri, Google, and even IFTTT. You can get the Moonside Neon Hex 3 pack at an early discount price of $ 66, and the product will begin shipping worldwide in May 2022.
