ZVART, the Zaren Vassallo Art initiative, announced in 2021 Rotunda By Flavia Marmara, a local artist commissioned by Vassallo Builders Group Ltd, led by Group CEO Pio Vassallo.

The artwork is a little over a meter in size and is made purely of glass mosaic. The chosen subject, the Cathedral of Mosta, is very special to the Vassallo family, and also to artists born in Mosta.

Marmara’s work ranges from abstraction to typical Maltese architecture, nature and landscapes, reflecting her interest in what surrounds her. She pays attention to the details and takes pride in creating challenging and unique pieces that require long hours of work and strong dedication.

According to her, mosaic is “transforming broken pieces into beautiful ones.” It fulfills her fiery desire to be creative, frees her mind from the dullness of everyday life, and takes her to a mythical world filled with a longing for freedom and adventure. She acknowledges her passion for mosaics by meeting Alfred Brifa, the first mosaic tutor and artist in 1997.

The inauguration of the work was attended by Nazzareno Vassallo, the retired chairman of the Vassallo group, Natalie Briffa Farrugia, the chairman of the next group, Pio Vassallo, the group CEO, all shareholders and directors of the Vassallo group, members of the ZVART committee and It was the artist Marmara.

ZVART encourages companies within the Group to invest in works of art to decorate the assets owned by the Group or the assets currently operated by the Group.

This initiative was launched by Vassallo in December 2020, during a short ceremony by Mosta artist Dione Borg in which a painting by Vassallo’s brother and former shareholder Ġużeppi Vassallo was presented at the group president’s office, Villa Amodeo. ..

Companies in the group took the initiative to participate in ZVART, and a total of 17 works were announced in one year. The next announcement was made at Learning Works, followed by CareMalta, Vassallo Group Realty, Vassallo Builders and Cater Essence. Most of CareMalta’s homes, as well as Casa Apap Bologna, which forms part of HILA’s home, have also been presented with their own work.

ZVART, an initiative to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Vassallo Group, has been decided to continue beyond 2021.
