A description of the text provided by the architect. Tolstoy is a vegan restaurant aimed at becoming a new wave of fast food restaurants. The concept is based on four main ideas: digital, plant-based, transparency and joy. As the design of the 1960s came to mind and society was reborn while planning, vegetarianism exploded and color became part of a positive statement. We immediately thought of a colorful, funky and optimistic place.

One of our main focal points was to humanize a digital vegan fast food space full of screens and tablets. We adopted Tolstoy’s digital elements and efficiency by integrating them into a more human and engaging environment. It was important to create a space where people could feel connected!

Overall, we intended to create a flexible space that adapts to people’s daily needs. Therefore, Tolstoy consisted of three different sitting areas. The central area is the most sociable and allows people to enjoy their meal together in more time and space. The window area is perfect for those who want to relax and enjoy the outside scenery. The mirror area is a place for people in a hurry who want a bite or a cup of coffee. The furniture was designed to encourage people to change, adapt and mix the three areas.

I designed a niche with Leo Tolstoy’s bust. The niche itself was a surprise. Discovered by the construction team during construction. During our trip to Brazil, we were influenced by the culture of the altar and the way we focus on what humans believe. So I decided to design a kind of symbolic element of Tolstoy, but it brought a certain aesthetic from an internet movement called Vaporwave. This movement combines old neoclassical sculpture with late 90’s web design (human vs. digital) and perfectly fits the concept of Tolstoy as a digital plant-based restaurant.
