Lenny Morgan is an American marathoner. He is also a running artist. What is his specialty? Turn your jogging route into a great masterpiece.

Since March 2015, California-based runners have been using the San Francisco skyline as a canvas, creating one artwork each month by tracking routes with the fitness app Strava.

Earlier this month he brought his own art form to the UAE and used GPS to create a work of art. He did this in five different locations throughout the UAE as part of a collaboration with the UAE Innovates.

This camel digital artwork was created over 7km of the Ras Al Khaimah Desert.

“I’m thinking about design. It’s unexpected, quirky, fun, timeless, and globally understood. Sketch on the street grid of a map and then use GPS tracking carefully. We will do it, “says Maughan. Khaleej Times..

Camel pieces cover the longest distance in the UAE and took about an hour to complete, while Morgan’s shape on San Francisco roads can take more than 20 hours to complete.

For example, this cobweb artwork was created after his longest run, over 119 miles (191 km) in 22 hours.

Morgan has produced 84 stunning works since he began his journey as a running artist. His early work consisted of hand gestures and simple forms.

Where everything started

His first GPS drawing was a gesture of Balkan’s hand from Star Trek, inspired by the 2015 death of Leonard Nimoy, who played Spock.

“This was a” proof of concept “test. It worked, and since then I’ve made one piece a month, “Morgan said.

Over the years, he moved to create more complex portraits and animal paintings. This brings his progress as an artist and runner to the fore.

His portrait of the famous Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, created after running 31 miles (50 km) for 6 hours and 25 minutes, swept Reddit and Western media in 2019.

One of his recent masterpieces is a tiger masterpiece born from a 153km run that lasted 21 hours and 26 minutes.

The original artwork encouraged viewers to experience different streets.

Planning process

Planning and executing a masterpiece requires stamina and spiritual effort.

Morgan likened a rigorous plan, which can take as long as the execution itself, to shaping with clouds. He said the artwork stimulates the root. Here he describes his process.

“Design is always a challenge,” he added. In addition, the work is 100% original and should only be published when completed.

Morgan said he had passed many drafts before reaching the “finals”.

The complexity and accuracy of his process can be seen in the artwork of this watch, which he completed over nearly 13 hours.

Frontline design

Morgan trains for the marathon all year round, but when working on a new design, speed and running performance are in the backseat.

“I’m most proud of the design I created, not the run itself.”

Some of the long-distance trips in miles (about 30 miles or more) are problems of 2 days or more. “At some point I will stop and pause, go home, take a shower, eat, then sleep, and then return to the same place the next day to resume running.

For him, the artwork is “only a personal creative challenge to me. The message is not intended. It’s an art. The viewer finds his message in it-or not. . “

Here are some other images that capture Morgan’s genius. The video features a portrait of David Bowie and paintings of cats, bears and flamingos.
